What are Dental Braces?

Carter Orthodontics Braces Treatment

Braces treatment is a common method for straightening teeth and correcting misalignments of the jaw. The advantages of braces treatment include:

  1. Correcting bite issues: Braces can realign the jaws and teeth to correct overbites, underbites, crossbites, and other bite issues.
  2. Straightening teeth: Braces can align crooked or crowded teeth and correct gaps between teeth.
  3. Improving oral health: Straightening the teeth can make it easier to clean and maintain good oral hygiene, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
  4. Enhancing self-esteem and confidence: A straighter, more attractive smile can boost self-esteem and confidence.
  5. Durable and long-lasting results: Braces treatment, when done correctly, provides long-lasting results that can last a lifetime with proper maintenance.
  6. Customizable: Braces can be customized to each patient’s needs, depending on the severity of their case.
  7. A variety of options: Braces come in a variety of options, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, and clear aligners like Invisalign.

It’s important to note that braces treatment requires a high level of commitment and compliance from the patient. Regular appointments with an orthodontist are necessary throughout the treatment process, and it can take several months to a few years to see the final results.

FAQ

Braces are used by your orthodontist to help you improve the look and feel of your smile. There are several different types of braces to choose from, including:
– Traditional metal braces
– Clear braces
– Ceramic braces
– Lingual braces
– Self-ligating braces
– Invisible braces

Children who grow up with crooked or buck teeth often face ridicule that leads to insecurities. Unfortunately, the bias doesn’t seem to disappear with adolescence. Either way – whether braces are medically necessary or cosmetically necessary – both are good reasons to give your child braces

If your child is getting regular dental visits, your dentist will be able to determine when it’s time for minor intervention or a full evaluation for braces. Here are some signs that a child is likely to benefit from braces: Early, late, or irregular loss of baby teeth. Difficulty in chewing or biting.

Patients with orthodontic problems can benefit from treatment at nearly any age. An ideal time for placement of braces is between 10 and 14 years of age, while the head and mouth are still growing and teeth are more conducive to straightening.

Braces do not often hurt though you may feel a small amount of discomfort for a couple days as your teeth, gums, cheeks, and mouth get used to your new braces.

Anywhere between 6-30 months, but 365 Braces & Aligners take less than a year (365 days)!

Yes! In fact, it’s even more important that patients receiving orthodontic treatment visit their dentist regularly. With braces, food may be caught in places that your toothbrush can’t reach. This causes bacteria to build up that can lead to cavities, gingivitis, and gum disease. Your dentist will work closely with your orthodontist to make sure that your teeth stay clean and healthy while wearing braces.

Clear aligners are a type of orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable plastic trays to gradually straighten teeth. They are an alternative to traditional metal braces. Clear aligners are custom-made for each patient using 3D computer imaging technology and are worn for about 22 hours a day. The aligners apply gentle pressure to the teeth to gradually shift them into the desired position. Clear aligners are typically changed out every one to two weeks as the teeth gradually move into the desired position.

Clear aligners are used as an alternative to traditional braces, and are designed to help guide teeth into proper position. Just like braces, clear aligners use gradual force to control tooth movement, but without any metal wires or brackets. The aligners are made with a strong plastic material that has been fabricated to fit your mouth. As treatment progresses you switch aligners. Each aligner is a little different, so your teeth move a little more with every change.

Aligners are worn for at least 20 hours each day, and you’ll receive a new aligner every two weeks. The length of your treatment depends on the severity of your case, and treatment can take anywhere from six months to two years.
